A Collector's Guide To Alfred Cheney Johnston Identification and Price Guide
If you are a discerning collector of fine art photography you may not yet be familiar with the work of Alfred Cheney Johnston. He was the once famous photographer for the Ziegfeld Follies. It was ACJ and Flo Ziegfeld who created the image of the "It" girls of the Roaring Twenties and Art Deco Era.
Alfred Cheney Johnston's fame grew fast and it wasn't long before he was being contracted to shoot the famous silent film stars of the day. High society mavens of the Upper East Side of Manhattan sought him out to take their portraits. The print media, both magazine and newspapers, hired him to shoot their ad campaigns.
But then everything fell apart with the stock market crash and the ensuing Depression. The Ziegfeld Follies folded and Alfred Cheney Johnston and his magnificent work fell into obscurity.
